Why Good Leaders Make You Feel Safe

In another video from Simon Sinek, he discusses the need for trust and community in businesses. This is extremely important in healthcare to ensure excellent care is being given to patients. Physicians ands nurses need to understand that they are one team who needs each other to function properly. House-keeping is a necessity to the team to maintain a clean environment while the physicians and nurses are busy with patients. Leadership and management are needed to keep the organization going, but understanding what their medical staff goes through on a daily basis.

People require the need for camaraderie. They need to know that everyone has similar beliefs, but that they are safe in the workplace. Everyone needs to feel that they are treated equally, and their job is seen as important. Executives need to understand that they need to create this sort of culture in their organization. The CEO needs to put himself on a level so much higher than the medical staff, that he looses the importance and necessity of physicians and nurses.

Morale and safety are extremely important. Leadership must not punish for substandard work, but coach and train the staff to work more effectively. Leaders need to look out for the people below them, but the people on their level as well. If someone cannot do their job properly and need a break, a colleague should be willing to step up until the worker can come back. They need to feel comfortable doing this, because they know their colleagues would do the same for them.

Healthcare morale and culture is essential to ensuring patients are receiving the best possible care. Having this sense of close leadership and high morale, the patients will continue coming, because they will feel as though they are part of the family.
